Measuring rims
This example rim is stock Toyota, which I bought by mistake, thinking I could use it for wider tires on my Mitsubishi. This wheel has too much backspace, meaning the wider tire would likely rub on my suspension.
Width:
This rim is 7" wide, and is being measured correctly across the bead seat.

Backspace:
Place the rim FACE-DOWN, so the mounting surface is showing...
then place a straight-edge, like this jack, across the rim, and measure down to the mounting surface.
