Geysir

This mountain had its head in the clouds, and we could see it off in the distance for a long time while driving.
This is the volcano Hekla, seen from the south. It actually extends into the distance. It is one of Iceland's bigger volcanos, and is considered "overdue".

Ah, finally: Geysir!

This is small geothermal hot spot, right beside the road.

The ground is steaming almost everywhere!

And here is Geysir! It's not "a geysir", it is "geysir", all other geysirs take their name from it!

Sadly, it's days are quiet in recent years, but it's still plenty hot!

And this is Strokkur, which is quite active!

The blasts of hot water and steam were unpredictable for height, but fairly consistant on timing.

John had them timed, I think it was 4 minutes and few seconds between blasts. I tried getting pictures from different positions.

This is a closer view! I loved watching the steam bubble come blasting up, and making a dome in the water.

The dome is breached! The rising steam and water have surfaced!

I never knew how high the water would go, so it was tricky to get one cycle completely photographed!

That was how high I guessed... And I was wrong, it went higher still, but also became hidden in a pile of steam... The people downwind got wet!
