Northern Iceland
And here we are in beautiful downtown Husavik! It is the main departure point for whale watching tours along the north coast, and has the best viewing success rate.
GeoSea. It was only mentioned in one of the brochures that we had, because it was built recently and only opened less than a year ago.
While drilling for hot fresh water, the drillers came across a hot sea-water source instead. And what better thing to do than to monetize it!
The pools are concrete, and designed as "infinity pools", that is, they have no obvious visible edge, and look like they continue off into the distance.
Being a private facility, cameras were quite welcome. It may have been new and out of the way and expensive, but the parking lot was busy.
This is the edge of the pool. The excess water spills over the side, and is collected, then channeled back to the sea.
From the seaside cliff view, we could see the large whale watching boats heading out, with the glaciers in the distance.
So we had to try to make this look like we were in the ocean...
Maybe with a beer, instead?
Ok, now we've got it! It was a bit surreal, Having a beer in hot salt water, only about 60 km from the Arctic Circle!
Afterwards, we found a place for lunch, which happened to be across the street from the whale tour docks.
This is as far north as we travelled, and it was quite comfortable. You can see the Husavik map on the table, it's small. I liked the "volcano" ashtrays: upside down plant pots!
The food, as always, was very good. The tourists are well looked after...
