The Shogun's Castle: Nijo-jo
This is the "exit doorway" from the Shogun's rooms. Also pretty ornate.

Ok, now I'm back at the ornate entry gateway again! This time viewed from the other side (the inner courtyard side).
There are subtle hints for those that are in the know. The occupant of this dwelling just might have a bit more authority than the average nobility...
Another decoration along the outside, all covered in gravel dust. The temples and shrines do like to use this gravel for unpaved areas.
We walked around to the west side, and followed the building's perimeter. I like the binding "staples" that help hold the beams together.
I tried to use the cherry trees in the garden, but then again, so was everyone else, which made for cramped picture taking, at times.

In true Japanese Garden style, the view changes as you move around the pond.
More pond. The Shogun's family were the principal source of marriage partners for the Imperial family, who just happened to live just up the road.
That made these two families very inter-connected. Oh, look! Yuko's seen something!
Ah! Carp. ...and they are seizing the day! ...and anything else that they can eat.
