The Kyoto Cherry Blossoms.

Our first morning in Japan! The hotel approach had an interesting ceiling...

And so did the hotel lobby! Since Yuko had some paperwork to get done at the station's travel office, I wandered the grounds...

And we eventually met up for a delicious breakfast in the Osaka Airport!

Then, just to make sure, at a nearby convenience mart, rice crackers and egg sandwiches were stocked up for the journey ahead!

And we're off, and on our way to the Kyoto Station! We passed by the Osaka Ferris Wheel, which dominates the Osaka skyline.

I don't remember seeing this here before: a family out on a pleasure boat!

I don't remember seeing this here before: a water skier! And that's a pretty industrial looking waterfront...

And here we are: Kyoto Station! ...now to find a taxi that can handle 4 people and all of their luggage...

Apparently, rental kimonos are a popular item in Kyoto now, and all the women who are looking for attention were wearing them! So I did my duty...

Our home-away-from-home for the next week. It's a guest house which operates as a hotel during the busy season, and as an apartment during the off season.
It was way too early for check-in, but they were happy to store our luggage until then.
So we headed off to the old Imperial Palace grounds, so we could celebrate Marion's and Yuko's birthdays, by eating strawberries while seated under the cherry trees!

We were staying near this covered market area, and soon had the strawberries in hand!

"Oh look, they have flowers here just like back home!" Ok, Marion didn't really say that...
