Nagato region
The merchant's home included many artifacts.
And many examples of the period artwork.
This one really caught my attention, and I had to ask several times for an explanation before I believed it. These were made to amuse the viewer.
This one was intended to be in the bedroom, and shows a definite European influence.
This is actually a modern piece, with obvious Western influences.
The exit from the building led out through a large gardened area.
The trees were very much shaped here!
A relaxing location.
Another shaped pine tree, with an appreciative audience!
A common sight: "Winter oranges". They seem to be a hybrid of the satsuma and pomello, similar to the hassaku and ama natsu oranges.
Note the lack of telephone poles, and the presence of the old walls. All the wiring was placed underground, and the old walls must be maintained.
