Cypress Cross-country

Yoko came along with us on a test run of Yuko's new cross-country skis (the white ones). Metal edges! Speed control, at last!

It was also a long weekend, and the only day with nice weather. The lot was full, so we had to park a ways down the road...

Cypress Mountain has a downhill ski area and a seperate cross-country trail system nearby.

They have even added dedicated snow-shoe trails, which were of interest to Yoko.

The base area was busy, but not too crowded. The trail system makes good use of the cleared area under the power lines.

...can't start without a trail map! Staff were handing out photocopies...

While Yoko began her trek up the power-line trail, we took the less steep ski trail...

Considering the crowds at the base, the trails were relatively quiet.

The sun, the snow, the trees...

Now it was our turn to begin the climb to the power-line trail. Still a bit further to go!

The sun on the snow...

A look down the hill that we climbed!

At the top of the hill, we met up again with Yoko at the "Upper Warming Hut". She had arrived a few minutes before we did.

We then continued further behind that little hut, where there were even fewer skiers, while Yoko began her downhill trek.

We met with Yoko, again, at the bottom of the hills we climbed, at the Hollyburn Lodge, which is about 500m from the base area. ...and crowded...

Then we continued back to the start, where Yoko looked happy to survive!
