East of Myvatn

Back to the rv, and this time there was a surprise: which one was ours? They both have the same number on the door!

We then drove a number of hours east and south, and took a gravel road cut-off to bypass several fjords on hiway #1.
The gravel road was socked in with fog, and was well known for some very steep downhills in our direction. Oh great, slippery road, heavy vehicle, and no visibility.
When we reached this waterfall, we had crossed the worst of it, and the fog lifted, and the steeps ended.

The rv looked a bit different though!

I took this picture to show just how narrow these roads were. There just is no shoulder. ...it did make us better driver's though!

Finally, we made it to the eastern shores of Iceland. Note the calm waters. There are offshore sandbars along much of the eastern shore, blocking the waves.

Almost to Hofn. We took a short detour to check out a view point, but it wasn't any good. These horsey-people were watching us go back to the hiway.
Shortly afterwards we made it to Hofn, and set up camp in a nice (rainy and wet) facility in town. All the towns had camping facilites, some even located in the center of town.
Each facility had an indoor/covered food preparation and eating area for the tent campers. On this rainy day, it looked like a refugee center...
