Inside the Volcano

The path down took us to the west side of the cone, and there in the distance is Reykjavik. This area now provides the city with its cold drinking water.

Now the ski hill is in the distance. Reykjavik pipes hot and cold water seperately to each home, and the hot water has a slight sulphur taste.

This sign needs some clean-up. From what I can tell, it shows that the inside of the volcano is just above the local water table, so it stays dry.

Back at the hut, we drop of our gear for the next group.

Then, as already mentioned, there was a hot meal provided. Notice the posters in the background. You can see them painting the inside of the volcano!

An Arctic Fox puppy!

It showed up a few weeks ago, and the staff had befriended it. It was shy and nervous, so no one else could get close...

I liked this texture in the old lava flow!

Back to the car. This is the typical non-urban roadway. Narrow lanes, no paved shoulder, and a sharp drop off down the side of the road!

Back at the place we stayed in. We were right beside the National Museum! ...which we didn't visit...

We went to a local city pool, and this is the change room. Quite clean, "no cameras or cellphones"...

So I took this picture from the glasssed in waiting area, and still managed to get a few glares from the locals...

After a soak in the hot tubs, we walked back to the old town, to the "sequined pig" restaurant. Apparently, it is two seperate facilities, but same owner.

So we tried the other, older, facility, and the menu was just as good! Here's the remains of the dessert platters....
