The Seaside Ryokan

Not far from the guest house, we could see this: two rocks with a rope between them. What is this?

Ah! Another shrine! Complete with frogs!

...lots of frogs! But what's with the rope?

Oh, did I mention there were frogs?

Did you figure out what the rope was for? No? Well, the larger rock is the "husband" to the smaller rock, and they are married! Hey, don't blame me!

Even the cliffside rock is interesting. Quartz veins in a blue-green rock.

The married rocks are a shrine location, and accessed through this stone gateway.

As we walked back towards the ryokan, we tried to figure out what this was. Is it a store? Apparently not, according to Marion...

We stopped for dinner at about the only available place locally: the large hotel beside the ryokan we were in.

Dinner was ok, and the service was prompt. We decided that there weren't many foreigners in these parts, so it's likely we will be talked about for a while!

This is another "handyman special, fixer upper", and it looks in pretty bad shape...

The ryokan, as night approaches. The older building looks much more welcoming now! Oh, and other than us four, there was only a small family of three.
