The Old Imperial Palace

Well, the night was still young, so we took Marion for a little walk over to Gion. Yuko had some shopping that she wanted to do!

Dinner was in order... "This place?" "Nah, let's try something else."

Downtown Kyoto.

"Ok, this place!" Marion was fond of these okonomiyaki, pancakes with meat and veggies, cooked in front of you, and loaded with mayo, etc.

Behind the exclusive tea houses in Gion. This area is always magical at night during cherry blossom time. Well, it IS my second trip here, so ..."always"!

Pontocho. This is the famous Kyoto narrow lane that's all about drinking!

Here's a big establishment. There must be 10 people in there! Of course, no pub experience is complete without Pikachu!

Then, just when you've adjusted to the narrow lane, you find these even narrower side lanes, also packed with bars!

Then, as a relief from the density, there are modern open spaces like this one!

And what could be more Japanese than an interesting appropriation of English! And that ends our first full day in Japan! Tomorrow? ...more stuff!
