Truck overhaul! Week #5
The automatic transmission bolted right in, fortunately my measuring
for the engine mounts was correct, and the transmission support's bolt holes were perfectly lined up the the matching
holes on the transmission.
Then the transfer case (the 4wd gears) was added to the transmission, and the fuel lines
installed. The gear shifters are now attached, and again, all is well with the measuring, and they all shift correctly.
Then on to the transmission fluid cooler, that smaller radiator that's looking sort of tilted
and in front of the main rad. The cooler's fluid lines were VERY difficult to attach to the side of the transmission since the
space was so restricted... The exhaust is in, at least back to the catalytic convertor. I cut the muffler and tail-pipe off
as they are a bit rust perforated.
Engine's all done. All the wiring, plumbing, hoses, etc are done. It's ready go.
Except that the gas tank is still out!
Here's why: it's easier to work on the rear suspension with the gas tank out.
This axle from the gold truck does NOT have the lockable differential that I had installed into the silver
truck's rear differential, and since it is very tech to swap diffs, I went instead with swapping axles. Oh, and I
took the rear shock absorbers from the silver truck as well. So this is where its at as of 5:30 Fri, as I'm still
trying to remove the rusted old bolts from the silver truck's suspension...
Today the young son of one of the owners of the shop got bored and helped out by stripping
anything useful off the silver truck while I was busy with the rusty bolts underneath. Looking pretty barren now!
