Oct 2008, skating world cup.
We were given a constantly updated list of the individual races, and had to keep food off the benchtop. Ooops!
We were sitting right up against the blue cushion wall, on the other side from the skaters. We would get sprayed with ice chips
from their skates sometimes...
To our left were the "Swiss Timing" group, contracted by the ISU to provide the precise final timing with their cameras.
There were 2 helpers at each end who constantly kept the corners wet, and rut-free, between the races.
The ISU has a pool of officials, who rotate through the events. These were the Starters, from China and Montreal. There are also 3 on-ice officials, and 2 more at the corners to watch for infractions.
